Reinstallation of NOD32 version 2 (v2) over the previous version (v1)

1. Manual reinstallation

2. Upgrading client workstations from the mirror (from NOD32 v1 to v2)

3. Technical support

1. Manual reinstallation

(Recommended for individual users)

  1. Download the installation package of NOD32 version 2 from http://www.nod32.com/download/download.htm (the appropriate version for your operating system).
Note: The administrator version is intended for creating a mirror updates for more computers in the network and requires a special username/ password. If NOD32 should run just on one computer and no mirror is needed, please download the standard version.
  2. If the e-mail accounts have been entered in the NOD32 v1 to the NOD32 for POP3 e-mail filter manually, it’s needed to change the Incoming Mail Server in your e-mail client manually to prevent problems receiving e-mail. Click here for details. If The “Auto Config” method has been used – no problems are expected in this area. If you are not sure what method have been used for the NOD32 for POP3 configuration, we recommend to do the procedure described under the above link for safety.
  3. Uninstalling the currently installed NOD32 version 1 is not necessary – just run the installation package of NOD32 v2, which you have downloaded before (by double-clicking the file downloaded)
  4. A dialog offering NOD32 reinstallation appears.
  5. Follow the instructions provided in the dialog windows (see the NOD32 version 2 Installation Guide for details).

2. Upgrading client workstations from the mirror (from NOD32 v1 to v2)

(Recommended for network administrators using mirror to update client computers who want to have client installations upgraded automatically to NOD32 v2 by means of mirror)

Note.: We recommend that you test the reinstallation procedure on a testing computer(s) to see if the update goes well as intended by the administrator and then apply it on all remaining computers in the network.

  1. Download the NOD32 v2 installation package (the appropriate administrative version for your operating system) from http://www.nod32.com/download/download.htm to a computer that does not serve for creating the mirror.
  2. Install the package (see the NOD32 version 2 Installation Guide for details).
  3. Create a configuration file (named “nod32.xml”) using the Configuration Editor (Start>Programs>Eset>Configuration Editor). The configuration file allows you to specify the desired NOD32 configuration, which will take effect on client workstations after NOD32 installation update has been downloaded from the mirror.
Note: If the update path to the mirror is not specified in the configuration file, the clients will keep the current update path. There are no problems expected if the mirror directory for the NOD32 v2 remains the same as for the v1, when all instructions in this guide will be kept. If the update path to the mirror should be changed, please do so in the configuration file and also in the mirror setup of the mirror creating machine after its reinstallation to v2.
  4. If the e-mail accounts (on any of the client(s)) have been entered in the NOD32 v1 to the NOD32 for POP3 e-mail filter manually, it’s needed to change the Incoming Mail Server in the e-mail client manually to prevent problems receiving e-mail. Click here for details. If The “Auto Config” method has been used – no problems are expected in this area. If you are not sure what method have been used for the NOD32 for POP3 configuration, we recommend to do the procedure described under the above link for safety.
  5. Get the special RAR files required for the mirror reinstallation (the list of them and the download links are at the bottom of this page)
    Example:
if there is a NOD32 v1 mirror for the English version and Windows NT/2000/XP and Windows 95/98/ME operating systems created – the following files exist in the mirror directory:
    admin.ver, mod_base.nup, mod_inc.nup, nodw98e.nup, nodw98e.ver, nownte.nup, nodwnte.ver
In this case it is necessary to get the following files to a joint (empty) directory:
    engine.rar (the engine), nodw98e.rar (for Widows 95/98/ME version) and/or nodwnte.rar (for Windows NT/2000/XP version)
  6. Extract all these RAR files to the joint directory – the file nod32.xml can be eventually overwritten with the file of the same name from another archive.
  7. Finally, there will be only one nod32.xml file in this directory. Please, replace it with the nod32.xml configuration file you created before.
  8. If the mirror directory path for v1 should be used also for v2 and you don’t remember the path – it is recommended to note it for future reference (it’s on the mirror creating machine - in the v1 NOD32 Control Center>Mirror Setup)
  9. On the computer with mirror for NOD32 v1 created, reinstall NOD32 v1 with the NOD32 v2 that have been downloaded (see the NOD32 version 2 Installation Guide).
  10. On the same machine - specify the location of the mirror directory within the NOD32 mirror setup (NOD32 Control Center>Update>Mirror>Setup>Update mirror folder)
Note: There are no problems expected if the mirror directory for the NOD32 v2 remains the same as for the v1, when all instructions in this guide will be kept. If the update path should be changed, please do so in the Mirror setup on the mirror creating machine. Make sure the mirror directory is the same as specified for the clients (the same as for v1, or a new path in the configuration file).
  11. Delete all files in the v1 mirror directory and copy all files extracted from the RAR files (in this case: mod_base.nup, mod_inc.nup, nodw98e.nup, nodw98e.ver, nownte.nup, nodwnte.ver and nod32.xml) to the directory originally containing the mirror for NOD32 v1.
  12. Under normal circumstances, workstations running NOD32 v1 and updated from this mirror should be upgraded to NOD32 v2 automatically. Update may take a bit longer than usual so please wait until a message prompting for a reboot appears. NOD32 v2 should be run automatically at the next Windows startup.
